About Dune Coffee Roasters

Located at 1101 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, Dune Coffee Roasters operates as a cafe serving Santa Barbara in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as espresso bar, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 7 am–4 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (805) 963-2721. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, dunecoffee.com.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 574 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded cafes & coffee in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Santa Barbara follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Legendary spot for specialty coffee. I ordered an iced skim latte and was genuinely shocked by the aroma, it had an incredibly rich brown sugar scent. At first, I thought they had accidentally added sweetener, but it was purely the coffee itself. It was one of the most aromatic and memorable coffees I’ve ever had. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. I only wish I were a local in Santa Barbara so I could come here regularly. I still miss that coffee!

Dune is one of those places where the coffee is always a no-brainer. I order their beans for our house too, and they brew beautifully at home, so it was such a treat to enjoy the full experience in person. Their almond croissant truly nailed it. Buttery, flaky, and filled with the perfect amount of almonds, with the almond paste oozing out just enough to feel indulgent without being too heavy. It was exactly what you want an almond croissant to be. We had their Ethiopia as a flat white, and while it leaned more medium than light, it was beautifully balanced. They use Straus organic barista milk, which makes such a difference, and the baristas clearly know what they’re doing. The texture, temperature, and overall execution were all spot on. The service was warm and authentic, and the space has such an easy, welcoming vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Dune makes specialty coffee feel approachable, thoughtful, and consistently excellent.

This location on State Street makes for a great coffee stop - especially if you’re visiting the Saturday farmers market (or even otherwise). We got the cappuccino, and it really hit the spot. It’s a 6oz cup of pure goodness - rich, balanced, and well made. They have a decent amount of seating inside, but it was quite busy when we visited, likely because of the farmers market. They also have a few outdoor tables, which we only noticed on our way out... definitely worth checking those out if you want a quieter spot.

Overall βββββ˜† (4/5) Environment ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful space with seating available. Coffee ββββ˜†β˜† β€’ Iced Tres Leches ββββ˜†β˜† Tasted like a fairly standard latte. They also have a wide selection of coffee beans for purchase, which is a nice plus if you’re into trying different roasts. Will I come back? Yesβ€”for the space and the beans, more than the drinks.

We went to Dune Coffee Roasters on State Street during a weekend getaway with two other couples, and this place absolutely hit the mark. The day before, we stopped at Handlebar for matcha, but it was honestly really watered down and just not great. So the next day we gave Dune Coffee a try, and wow, this was exactly what we were anticipating in terms of flavor and quality. The ceremonial grade strawberry matcha was phenomenal. Hands down one of the best matchas we have ever had. They actually use real strawberries that are crushed into it, and it even had this strawberry dust sprinkled on top. The flavor was so smooth, not too bitter, not too sweet, just perfect. My wife and I are total matcha connoisseurs down in Orange County, and we were blown away by this one. The drinks were gone within seconds. Our friends that were with us own a coffee shop, and even they were super impressed with the espresso and how fresh and flavorful the beans were. You can tell this is a true coffee place where they care about the craft and the quality. We also grabbed a croissant and a chocolate croissant, both really flaky and delicious. Not sure if they were made in-house, but they tasted like they w
